Population Density, Relative Frequency and Spathoglottis papuana Living Ability in Various Ecosystems in CYCLOOP Mountain Nature Preserve, Papua

MABBI – Research conducted by Agustina Yohana Setyarini Arobaya and Abigail Florence Pattiselanno from Papua University entitled Kepadatan Populasi, Frekuensi Relatif dan Kemampuan Spathoglottis papuana Hidup pada Berbagai Ekosistem di Cagar Alam Pegunungan Cycloop, Papua.
Cycloop Mountain Nature Reserve becomes a living place for a variety of flora fauna. Orchids are one of the biodiversity that is often found growing in the area. Spathoglottis papuana live terrestrially in the CMNR region in various types of ecosystems ranging from lowland rainforests to highlands and mountains. This paper will discuss the potential of S. papuana and its little-known habitat inside the area. The approach method used is the exploration and setting of 6 observation plots measuring 0.1 hectares placed in 6 locations where orchids are found to reveal the population and density of terrestrial orchid of S. papuana. A 30 plots measuring 20 × 20 are placed systematically on observation plots of 300 × 200 square meters at two locations, each in the western and eastern parts of the CMNR region for the analysis of vegetation in orchid habitats. The results of the analysis of thepopulation of S. papuana in the western part of CMNR is recorded more than those found in the east. The density of individual S. papuana in the west is also higher than that in the eastern part of CMNR. In contrast, the presence of S. papuana in the western is lower than in the eastern part of CMNR. Habitat profiles based on analysis of vegetation in the west are still covered by tree-level plants of Albizia falcataria, Pometia pinnata and Casuarina equisetifolia. In the eastern sites is covered by shrubs, plants from ferns (Pteridophyta) and grasses (Poacea). (Tri/MABBI)
